A Humbling Experience To see which Sisters fought this battle, click on the roster link above. In addition, I have been play testing Dargan Mulhall's Dreadnought and Sister Watcher, so they are in this battle too. To see more about this Dreadnought, click on the conversions link.
Word was out that the Dark Angels thought they were above the Emperor's Authority. They were after all, one of the first Space Marine Chapters. Commander Burlage was the worst of the bunch, prancing around in his Terminator Armor like he was a big shot. Well this could not stand. He and those under his command were about to be humbled. The Authority of the Emperor applies to all and the Daughters of the Emperor are going to enforce just that. So the task was set before Canoness Rose Mary to teach Burlage a lesson. The plan was to strike his force while they were out on a reconnaissance mission. Knowing exactly where Burlage would be from intelligence, she deployed her Sisters for the strike. Her initial plan would be to have her Battle Sisters Squads dig into the ruins and provide cover fire while she & her Celstian Bodyguard, the Seraphim, and the Retributors move forward. Then when the time is right, the Battle Sisters Squads would rush forward and provide any necessary support in close assault. Turn 1 The Dark Angels were in view, so Canoness Rose Mary gave the signal and her squad in the Rhino and the Seraphim moved up on the right of the ruins. Retributor Squad Omega moved up the center, and Retributor Squad Kappa moved up the left lane, unloading its crew into ruins. The Dark Angels responded by unloading their tactical squads from the two Razorbacks. The rest of the force moved to take a good position. Their Dreadnought fired off a few shots at the HQ Rhino and immobilized it. Razorback 1 fired off a shot at Delta Squad and one Sister fell for the Emperor's cause. Turn 2 The HQ Squad disembarked from their immobilized Rhino, and moved forward into some ruins. The Seraphim and Immolators continue to move forward. Retributor Squad Kappa fire at Razorback 1 and the crew were so shocked that they would not be able to recover in time to fire back. Immolator Kappa move forward and burned a marine from Razorback 1. They were running in fear. Oh wait, they shall show no fear. There was a lot more shooting, but it was mostly cover fire, not really doing any damage. Razorback 2 blasts at Immolator Omega and destroys it and one of the Heavy Flamers aboard it. The other Dark Angels fire a lot but they seem to be bad shots. Then Commander Burlage rushes from the trees and assaults Immolator Kappa. He of course was thinking he would destroy the Immolator and he would have cover from any return fire. But of course Burlage just couldn't resist showing off, so not only did he destroy the Immolator with his mighty power fist, but he threw the tank away from him, leaving out in the open right in front of Retributor Kappa and their four Multimeltas. Turn 3 The Sisters continue to move forward. The Sisters' Dreadnought destroys the twinlinked plasma gun on Razorback 1. The Battle Sister squads kill one Tactical Marine in the trees. The HQ Squad, Seraphim, and Rhino each kill a tactical Marine from Razorback 2 causing them to run and turn around at the edge of the battle field. Retributor Squad Omega torches two Marines in the trees. And then the moment of triumph. Retributor Squad Kappa lower their Multimeltas and fire. Commander Burlage falls to the ground a hurting unit. That should teach him for showing off in the middle of a battle. The Seraphim charge Razorback 2 and blow it to pieces with their meltabombs, killing one of them. Retributor Squad Omega then rushes forward to combat the Marines in the trees. The Dark Angels are now furious because we took down Burlage. Razorback 1 and the Attackbike kill two Sisters in Delta Squad. The Assault Squad rushes forward and kills 4 sisters in Retributor Squad Kappa, but they do not run. Retributor Squad Omega does a little better though as Preacher Clif brings his Power Sword down on 2 Marine heads and the Veteran Sister Superior does the same. The Tactical Squad from Razorback 2 attack the Seraphim and kill one. Turn 4 Now it was time for everyone to move forward. The HQ Squad takes down the Landspeeder. Battle Sister Squads Alpha and Beta Charge into the Assault Marines. The Sisters' Dreadnought follow that lead. (This combat with Alpha, Beta, Kappa, and the Dread will now be referred to as the Big Assault) The Seraphim kill one Marine, leaving one left. Retributor Squad Omega beat their Marines and they run. Omega just falls short of them. Retributor Squad Omega is now in trouble. There is a lot of firing and the result is Mary Anthony standing next to a dead Preacher Clif and her fellow Squad members. She then gets charged, and runs. The HQ Squad also takes casualties from sniper fire. The Seraphim remain locked in combat. The Big Assault continues, as 3 Sisters and 2 Marines fall. Turn 5 The HQ Squad moves forward more. The Seraphim kill the last Marine from Razorback 2. 3 Marines and 2 Sisters fall in the Big Assault. The Marines run and the many Sisters catch them, once again locked in combat. The Dark Angels retaliate in the Big Assault by charging the Large Tactical Squad into combat and immobilizing the Dreadnought. Turn 6 Battle Sister Squad Delta fires on the Attackbike and destroys it. The Seraphim take cover. The HQ Squad moves into the trees just inside the enemy deployment zone. The Big Battle rages on, but the Sisters prove to be too much and kill all but 3 Marines from 3 different Squads. (Lucky rolling with my Power Weapons) They run and the Sisters do not catch them. Now that the Sisters were not locked in to combat, the Marines had one last chance to fire on them. Razorback 1 stuns the Dreadnought. One Sister falls from Battle Sister Squad Beta. The Snipers kill the Watcher of the Dreadnought.
It was too late. Burlage was down, and the Sisters were upon them. They had no choice but to retreat. Rose Mary hoped they had accomplished something here today, and that the Dark Angels would think twice before thinking they were above the Emperor's Authority again. If not, then too many Sisters had died for nothing. But Rose Mary was sure that she would be seeing Burlage again in the future. She knew his Apothecary, Ronnus, was one of the best and would piece Burlage back together.
Victory points: This was a tough one. If I would not have completed the Recon Mission objectives which gave me 600 Victory Points, I would have lost. I really like the way I have my force configured right now and I think that the tactics I used in this battle are sound. If you have any comments, email me.
