Patrol Mission Report #2 by Kenneth Pant
Played a thousand point patrol mission against the Dark Eldar.
Having
played that mission in my previous game, I decided to field the same
Sororitas squad as my starting Troops slot. I rearranged my army list
to give Sister Superior Clariss a purity seal to fit the fluff from my
last battle report. After telling my opponent of my previous bad luck I
deployed her squad in its Rhino transport. Dead center on the board, my
opponent deployed his first Raider off to my right at 2 o'clock. He won
the right to go first.
"As the rhino crested the hill Sister Superior Clariss scanned the
rolling plains before her. Nothing but endless acres of windswept
grass. She was thankful that they had finally pushed the Eldar from the
City. But finding them out here on the plains was difficult. Their
numbers seemed to have been greatly reduced, Clariss hoped that the end
was in sight.
A blinding flash inside the rhino and a tremendous noise jarred her from
her musings. She heard screams as the vehicle seemed to float for an
eternity and then come crashing down on its side. Clariss choked as
smoke filled the cabin and flames quickly spread. She opened her
command hatch and tumbled out into the tall grass. Grabbing her power
sword from inside she headed to the back of the rhino. Some of her new
squad were already outside and helping to get out the other survivors.
A quick check told her that they had only lost two in the burning wreck.
Clariss prayed to the Emperor for their souls, she had only been with
them for two days after just losing her entire squad fighting off these
same Aliens. More shots rang against the hull, pinging off it in rapid
succession, the last cleared the debris of the rhino and caught Dierdre,
one of her youngest Sororitas full on. With a blinding flash of super
heated plasma, she was gone.
On the hills behind her she could already see the rest of the Sisters
rushing up in support, so she crept around the edge of the vehicle to
get a look at her attackers. These were not the same Aliens they had
fought in the city. A ghastly skimmer floated like a knife above the
tall grass. It's hull a dark evil red, with a horde of spike armored
warriors firing from its rails. She checked all sides, there were four
of them! The closest a dark blue color and coming straight for them!
Just moments away its squad of spike armored Aliens dropped off into the
grass and came on at the run. Its cannon lobbing shots over her head at
the Sisters coming up in support. One shot hit a rhino with such force
that it stalled the engine, leaving it a still target for its
compatriots. Clariss had little time to observe its fate. She sang out
the Sacred Rites of Battle and led her Sororitas towards the advancing
Aliens.
Sister Aleea let forth with the fury of her heavy flamer, incinerating
three of aliens. Clariss gunned down one with her bolt pistol while
several others fell to the bolters of her squad. "Forward for the
Emperor" she cried and her squad charged with her. Meeting the Aliens
amidst the smoke and fire. She cut right and left with her power
sword. Within moments all of the enemy lay dead. Thankful of their
victory, but shocked at it just the same her Sororitas looked to her for
direction.
Four of the skimmers still bore down on them, their cannon were
beginning to trace them. Clariss rushed the squad back behind the
debris of their rhino. Keeping her Sororitas concealed behind it as she
strove to observe the enemy vehicles. The main force of Sisters was
coming on now, it looked as if the two forces might converge about her
position. The alien skimmers were concentrating their fire on the
remaining Sororitas vehicles, now was her chance.
The second rhino had finally gotten its engine started, and as it sped
off to the left to meet the Alien transport encircling her position
Clariss made her move. The closest skimmer had moved forward and was
just coming into range. She continued the Rites of Battle in a calm
hushed voice, her Sororitas joined her as they waited for the Alien
vessel to come closer. Clariss felt the presence of the Emperor inside
her, she was beyond fear.
As one they rose up to let loose the Emperors wrath from their weapons
upon the Alien ship. Sister Kaolin only clipped it with her melta gun,
and Clariss saw their chances of surviving quickly draining away. The
cannon on the skimmer quickly spotted them and began to let fly its
deadly bolts. She screamed in fury and unloaded the remnants of her
magazine into it. The bolts seemed to just bounce off its armor, but
the last of them somehow managed to penetrate one of its engines. With
a high pitched scream it veered off to its right and exploded as it
crashed into the ground.
The tide had turned, and those Aliens that could turned and fled.
Clariss watched as the Seraphim and an Immolator made short work of the
remnants of the Aliens. No miracles had been worked today, but still
she kissed the purity seal hanging over her heart. Giving prayers of
thanks to the Emperor, she felt her conviction somehow growing. The
Aliens could not stand against the might of the Sororitas amassed in the
Emperor's name."
